बाबा आमटे जिनका वास्तविक नाम डॉ॰ मुरलीधर देवीदास आमटे है का जन्म 26 दिसंबर, 1914 को हुआ और देहावसान 9 फरवरी, 2008 को हुआ। अपनी समाज सेवा की वजह से लोग प्यार से उन्हें बाबा आमटे के नाम से पुकारते हैं। बाबा आमटे ने समाज से परित्यक्त लोगों और कुष्ठ रोगियों के लिये उन्होंने अनेक आश्रमों और समुदायों की स्थापना की। इनमें चन्द्रपुर, महाराष्ट्र स्थित आनंदवन का नाम प्रसिद्ध है। बाबा आमटे ने वन्य जीवन संरक्षण और समाज सेवा के लिए अपना पूरा जीवन समर्पित कर दिया। 9 फ़रवरी 2008 को बाबा का 94 साल की आयु में चन्द्रपुर जिले के वड़ोरा में निधन हो गया।

Baba Amte, whose real name is Dr. Murlidhar Devidas Amte, was born on December 26, 1914, and died on February 9, 2008. Because of their social service, people lovingly call them Baba Amte. Baba Amte established many ashrams and communities for abandoned people and leprosy patients from the society. Among them, the name of Anandvan is located in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. Baba Amte dedicates his entire life for the protection of wildlife and social service. On February 9, 2008, Baba passed away at Vadora, Chandrapur district at the age of 94.
